The Arch Recording Studio
Southport, UK | Finished: 2022
A Sonic Sanctuary
The Arch is not just a studio; it is a resurrection of sound. Located in a historic converted church in Southport, the challenge was to tame the massive reverberation of the sacred hall while preserving its breathtaking "larger-than-life" character.
The goal was to create the ultimate Live Tracking Room—a space where drums thunder, strings soar, and choirs breathe. By merging the church's vertical volume with surgical acoustic treatment, we engineered a space that feels spiritual yet sounds clinically precise.

Taming the Echo
Converting a church into a studio presents a unique acoustic battle: managing low-frequency decay in a massive volume.
1. Volumetric Diffusion
Instead of "killing" the room with foam, we utilized the architectural arches and custom-designed diffusers to scatter sound energy. This ensures that the reverb tail is smooth, musical, and free of flutter echoes.
2. Variable Acoustics
The floor plan allows for customizable isolation. By strategically placing baffles and utilizing the natural nooks of the church structure, engineers can shift from a tight, punchy 70s drum sound to a massive orchestral roar in minutes.
